Abu Dhabi, UAE
An interior design commission for a private executive lounge within a prominent Abu Dhabi office building, delivered in two design variants — a classical register and a contemporary interpretation — allowing the client to experience both directions before final selection. The classical variant draws on the vocabulary of traditional English club rooms: a deep plaster cornice with egg-and-dart ornament runs at ceiling perimeter, above walls panelled in warm mahogany with raised-and-fielded frames. Channel-tufted Chesterfield sofas upholstered in aged cognac leather are arranged around a fireplace surround in carved cream limestone, with polished brass fixtures throughout — table lamps, door furniture, and curtain hardware. The contemporary variant retains the sense of gravitas but reduces ornament entirely: walls are clad in book-matched walnut veneer with invisible seams, low-slung lounge chairs are in charcoal bouclé, and lighting is entirely concealed within a sculptural plaster ceiling relief. Both variants share the same quality of material specification, proportional rigour, and attention to acoustic comfort — ensuring the lounge functions as a genuine retreat from the activity of the floors above.
