Abu Dhabi, UAE
A richly layered interior commission spanning a ceremonial private majilis and an adjoining commander's office — conceived as two architecturally distinct yet materially unified spaces within a prestigious private residence. The majilis adheres to the formal conventions of Emirati hospitality: deep-tufted velvet seating arranged around a central hand-knotted carpet, a coffered plasterwork ceiling with integrated cove lighting, and floor-to-ceiling panelled joinery in dark lacquered oak providing discreet perimeter storage without interrupting the room's ceremony. The commander's office adopts a more disciplined register — a heavyweight executive desk in bookmatched walnut faces the seating arrangement, flanked by backlit stone-clad wall panels and a ceiling of linear black aluminium channels concealing both ambient and task lighting. Both spaces are united by a common vocabulary of brushed brass hardware, natural stone surfaces, and hand-stitched leather detailing — materials selected to age with dignity across decades of daily use.
